Leroy Hood, MD, PhD, President of the Insititute for Systems Biology in Seattle, Washington and Co-Director of the Nanosystems Biology Cancer Center, was inducted into the national Academy of Engineering September 30, 2007. This makes Lee one of only seven living individuals currently elected to all three National Academies--the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Science and the Institute of Medicine of the national Academies.
The National Academies was established in 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln elects individuals of the highest distinctioin to provide advice and counsel to the nation on critical issues of science, medicine and technology. Total membership in the academies is approximatley 6000.
