Leroy Hood to Lecture Royal Academy of Engineering

Leroy Hood, MD, PhD, NSBCC Co-Director and President of the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, Washington will deliver the UK Focus for Biomedical Engineering Annual Lecture to the Royal Academy of Engineering in London.  The title of his talk is "Sstems Biology and Medicine:  from reactive to predictive, personalized, preventive and participatory medicine." 

Dr. Hood will present his views of systems biology and discuss a systems approach to one disease, prion disease in mice, and demonstrate how it profoundly alters current views of disease with regard to understanding disease pathophyisiology as well as new approached to diagnosis, treatment and, eventually, prevention. 

Dr. Hood is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, the American Association of Arts and Sciences, the Institute of Medicien and the National Academy of Engineering.  He is one of only seven (of more than 6000 members) scientists elected to all three academies (NAS, IOM and NAE).
